Photos and pen and ink sketches from my roadtrip to visit family in Montana.
This is my halfway stop from Seattle to Bozeman. Wallace is a great little town nestled within the Bitterroot Mountains. It was famous for Silver Mining and is the town that the book The Big Burn by Timothy Egan centers around.
Land acknowledgement: The Bitterroot Mountains are the ancestral home of the Bitterroot Salish People. They are part of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT).
It's small but very picturesque- the Bitterroots rise up all around the historic down town.
I stayed in the Stardust Motel, great motel that's been refurbished to really lean into the retro vibe. The sign out front is fantastic.

The historic downtown area of Bozeman has really great shops (including THREE bookstores which made my daughter and me happy) as well as really great street art. Apparently they switch out the wraps on the electrical boxes to feature different artists periodically. Here are a couple of them.
Some other scenes around Bozeman:

Burke Park and Peets Hill, Bozeman
I also visited the Sunset Hills Cemetery, which was a fantastic old cemetery with a lot of Victorian and Edwardian era graves. I wrote more about that and posted the sketches in a separate blog.

We were able to visit Yellowstone one of the days

Some sketches and photos from my walks this week. It's been really sunny and warm here in Seattle- so everyone is out enjoying it before the rain sets back in!

Happy New Year! I hope you didn’t make any resolutions. Well, I hope you didn’t make any of the usual suspects of resolutions (you know the ones). Here’s what I hope instead:
